Bayonne Bridge – Drone Inspection
Bayonne, NJ
Project overview
The Bayonne Bridge is a steel arch bridge connecting Bayonne, New Jersey with Staten Island, New York. The landmark "Raise the Roadway" project elevated the bridge deck to accommodate larger container ships accessing the Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal.
SKYPYX performed drone inspections of the arch structure, new deck elements, and approach structures during the complex construction phasing. Drones documented conditions at arch heights and over active shipping lanes without requiring climbers or suspended platforms, supporting the engineering team's structural analysis.
Deliverables
- Arch structure inspection photography at multiple elevations
- New deck element condition documentation
- Approach structure and support column imagery
- Construction progress records during phased work
- Georeferenced data for structural analysis and engineering review
Location & scope
The Bayonne Bridge spans the Kill Van Kull waterway between Bayonne, New Jersey and Staten Island, New York. The active shipping channel below required coordination with maritime traffic, the Port Authority, and the Coast Guard. The inspection covered the full arch structure, elevated deck, approach spans, and support columns.
